Interactions
ACE inhibitors interact with a number of drugs:
- diuretics:
- patients previously administered diuretics on a long-term basis have a high incidence of first-dose hypotension; this is minimised by reducing the diuretic dose for at least 24 hours before ACE inhibitors are instigated
- lithium - ACE inhibitors raise the plasma concentration
- antipsychotic drugs - ACE inhibitors precipitate postural hypotension
- NSAID's reduce the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors
- cyclosporin - increases the risk of hyperkalaemia
