Clinical features
Symptoms depend on the load - usually the infections are asymptomatic, but when an individual has more than 200 worms they can reach the rectum, causing:
- a need to defaecate during the night
- abdominal pain
- chronic watery or bloody diarrhoea
- rectal prolapse
- eosinophilia
- anaemia
- finger clubbing
- short stature in chronic infection
