Pre-renal causes
- bleeding diathesis, including anticoagulant treatment
- atrial fibrillation, caused by microemboli settling in the kidneys
- infective endocarditis
- haemolytic causes, e.g. sickle cell disease
- march haematuria - vigorous exercise in young people
- scurvy
- purpura
- leukaemia
- acute fever, e.g. malaria
