Tiredness may have a variety of physiological causes:

  • after physical activity - this is usually pleasurable tiredness
  • after prolonged bout of heightened emotion - taking exams; on stage; on holiday - a common experience as stresses of daily routine fade during first week of annual holiday.
  • after a prolonged period of sleep deprivation (1)
  • during dieting or anorexia
  • environmental noise
  • boredom
