Cardiac
The cardiac complications of stroke include:
- ischaemic heart disease and principally, myocardial infarction. MI is a common cause of sudden death, particularly within the first 1-2 days.
- non-ischaemic damage to cardiac myofibres - myocytolysis
- cardiac arrhythmias - in 31% of cases
