The common opportunistic infections in stage 4 HIV disease are:
- Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia
- cerebral toxoplasmosis
- oesophageal candidiasis
- diarrhoea, pathogens including:
- Cryptosporidium
- CMV
- atypical mycobacteria
Common malignant disease includes:
- Kaposi's sarcoma
- high-grade B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
- cervical carcinoma
