Explaining prescriptions
The doctor should explain:
- why the treatment was prescribed
- the importance of taking the drug
- the expected action and benefts of the drug
- likely possible side-effects and what to do if they occur
- precautions and interactions with other drugs, over-the-counter drugs, alcohol etc
- how and when to come for follow-up and obtain repeat prescriptions
