Epithelial ovarian tumours

Epithelial ovarian tumours are classified into:

  • serous tumours
  • mucinous tumours
  • endometrioid carcinoma
  • clear cell carcinoma
  • Brenner tumour
  • undifferentiated carcinoma

The vast majority are benign:

  • 60% of serous, 80% of mucinous and over 95% of Brenners

Others are classified as:

  • borderline: low-malignant potential, with at least two of: epithelial budding, multi-layered epithelium, mitotic activity or nuclear atypia
  • malignant: most endometrioid and clear cell types
