Treatment and prognosis
- children usually die within 2 years of the diagnosis
- in up to 10% the child develops an acute leukaemia; in a further 10% there are other malignancies
- androgens and steroids delay progression of the condition
- bone marrow transplantation - there is a 70% survival at 5 years post-marrow transplant
