Maltomas (mucosal associated lymphoid tumours) are indolent lymphomas which arise in the following tissues:

  • gastrointestinal tract especially the stomach
  • thyroid
  • parotid
  • lung

There is an association with pre-existing inflammation:

  • stomach maltoma with H. pylori gastritis
  • parotid maltoma with Sjogren's syndrome
