- postinfective polyneuritis, for example, Guillain-Barre syndrome
- sarcoidosis
- idiopathic
- drugs, for example, isoniazid, vincristine, phenytoin, nitrofurantoin, gold
- collagen disease, including rarely, rheumatoid arthritis
