Limb girdle dystrophy

Limb girdle dystrophy refers to a broad and increasingly heterogeneous group of genetic disorders characterized by postnatal onset and progressive weakness. In most cases, the weakness is predominantly symmetric and typically affects the pelvic and/or shoulder girdle musculature.

Limb girdle dystrophy has an autosomal recessive or polygenic mode of inheritance. Onset is usually in the second or third decade but may be delayed until middle age.
