Membrane transport
The mitochondrion has two membranes. The outer membrane is relatively permeable to small molecules. The inner membrane is more selective. It has specific protein transporters for a number of substances including:
- tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates
- fatty acids
- adenine nucleotides
- NADH
