Muscular branches
These branches of the popliteal artery supply the muscles which it encounters in its route through the politeal fossa:
- semimembranosus
- semitendinosus
- biceps femoris
- gastrocnemius
- soleus
- plantaris
- sural arteries
The superior branches form anastomoses with the terminal parts of the profunda femoris and gluteal arteries. The sural arteries tend to be end arteries.
