Significant symptoms in infants
- reduced feeding (< 50% of normal amounts over 24 hours)
- persistent vomiting (especially if more than half of the last three feeds are lost)
- any bile-stained vomiting
- rapid breathing, especially if noisy or of sudden onset
- less than four wet nappies in the last 24 hours
- inappropriate drowsiness or irritability
- frank blood in stools
- a persistent and unusual cry
- history suggestive or apnoeic episodes
