Demographic trends

There is a wide variation in the incidence of breast carcinoma across the World. The incidence is:

• high in:
  • Canada
  • United States
  • northern Europe
  • New Zealand
• intermediate in:
  • South America
  • Caribbean
  • eastern Europe
  • southern Europe
• low:
  • Asia
  • Africa
  • Japan

There is some evidence that these trends are not entirely genetic in origin. For instance, the offspring of Japanese immigrants to the United States approximate the risk of their new country.
