Aetiology
The common causes of obstructive anuria are:
- calculi in a solitary kidney or bilaterally
- bladder cancer invading both ureteric orifices
- obstruction of both ureters by an abdominal or pelvic mass e.g. ovarian tumour
- bilateral blockage of ureters by crystal deposition e.g. uric acid or sulphonamide
- prostatic hypertrophy or cancer
- retroperitoneal fibrosis involving both ureters
- renal obstructive disorders, like pelviureteric juction obstruction
