Osteoarthritis may complicate long standing injury due to severe disturbance of shoulder mechanics. The humeral head rides upwards and abuts the acromion process as the patient tries to abduct. The acromioclavicular joint is progressively eroded and osteoarthritis supervenes. In time, the glenohumeral joint may also be affected.
