  This session examines the causes and risk factors for a hiatus hernia along with its classification and symptoms. It will cover investigations, associated diseases and management options including lifestyle changes, pharmacological treatments and surgical interventions.

  The causes and typical symptoms of diverticular disease will be discussed, along with diagnosing in primary care and investigations. Management options (including red flag symptoms), referral criteria, prognosis and prevention will also be covered.

  Here we will focus on the aetiology, epidemiology and both typical and atypical presentations of appendicitis. The session will include examination tips, management (including referral and emergency admission criteria) and treatment options including no treatment, antibiotics and surgery.
