  • Discontinuing antidepressants

    Here, we will examine factors to consider when stopping antidepressants, with a discussion of linear vs proportional tapers. This session will also cover how to differentiate between withdrawal symptoms and a relapse of mental health symptoms.

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency

    This session will review the causes of vitamin B12 deficiency and when it is appropriate to test. Furthermore, we will examine the management of vitamin B12 deficiency, including a discussion on oral vs intramuscular therapy.

  • Dry eye

    This session will offer a review of the causes of dry eye syndrome, a discussion about preservative toxicity and a review of primary care treatment options and indications for referral.

  • Diplopia

    This session will cover the initial assessment of the patient presenting with diplopia, including red flags and findings that require immediate onward referral. It will also include a review of the visual standards for driving in a patient with diplopia.

  • Dementia

    This session will highlight the importance of early recognition of dementia and its profound impact on patients and their families. It will review the role of intervention and support, both within the home and in collaboration with carers, as well as evolving approaches to care. The discussion will include the effects of dementia on family dynamics and mental health, alongside an exploration of current diagnostic pathways and treatment options.

  • Frailty

    Frailty will be defined and differentiated from normal ageing, with a focus on how to assess it effectively. The session will explore the impact of frailty on the whole patient, considering its implications for care in ageing populations. Prevention and management strategies will be discussed, with an emphasis on the importance of early recognition.

  • Deprescribing in older people

    Polypharmacy and its effects on the elderly, including adverse drug reactions and its impact on quality of life, will be explained. The discussion will highlight the importance of regular medication reviews and appropriate discontinuation, addressing the challenges of deprescribing in a prescribing-focused culture. Common scenarios and case studies will be reviewed, showcasing how deprescribing can significantly improve patient care.
