High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
High performance liquid chromatography detects most unusual haemoglobins, such as sickle haemoglobin, and measures the amount present. It also measures the haemoglobin A 2 level. It has replaced electrophoresis, and is now the test most commonly used to detect unusual haemoglobins.
