Modification of Th1 lymphocytes activation
Th1 T helper lymphocytes are proinflammatory. Altering the balance towards immunomodulatory Th2 lymphocytes may be beneficial.
Accepted treatments which are thought to act in this way include:
- corticosteroids
- interferon beta
- intravenous immunoglobulin
Experimental approaches include:
- oral myelin
- neutralising monoclonal antibodies to:
- TNF-alpha & TNF receptors
- IL-1 & soluble IL-2
- matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors
- TGF-beta and IL-10
